Diagnosing and Treating Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD)

Peripheral artery disease

Peripheral artery diseasePain and discomfort in the legs or extremities can be a result of reduced bloodflow.  Blood carries oxygen to various parts of the body through the peripheral arteries.  Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) – or Peripheral Vascular Disease – occurs when the peripheral arteries become restricted or blocked because of plaque or atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries).

Symptoms of PAD include:

  • Hip, thigh or calf muscle cramping, especially after activity
  • Weakness or numbness in the extremities
  • Coldness in foot or lower leg
  • Skin color changes and/or shiny skin on the leg
  • Hair loss on the feet and legs
  • Weak or little pulse in the feet or legs
  • Sores that won’t heal (toes, feet, legs)
  • Slow growing toenails
  • Erectile dysfunction

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, we will evaluate you for PAD.
